Our Focus

Entorno Law’s practice revolves around the protection of the public from the many hazardous chemicals that come with living in a modern world. It serves the public benefit to make consumers aware of harmful chemicals, wherever they occur, and the various dangers they pose. To that end, we have created a reference guide to some of the chemicals included in California’s Proposition 65 statute, that our firm continuously seeks to reformulate and regulate within consumer goods.

Acrylamide is listed under Prop 65 as causing, developmental toxicity, male reproductive toxicity, and cancer. The chemical is formed when starchy foods are cooked at high temperatures. Frying, roasting, & baking form Acrylamide.

Inorganic Arsenic is known to cause cancer, and Inorganic Oxide Arsenic is listed as causing developmental toxicity. Arsenic is naturally occurring, however, in its inorganic forms, it can pose a health risk through contaminated drinking water, food, & tobacco.

Asbestos has been determined by State, National, & International health authorities as causing cancer. Due to its properties, Asbestos can be found in many environments including homes & buildings, as well as consumer products like makeup.

Lead is known by the state of California to cause cancer, developmental toxicity, and reproductive toxicity. Lead is particularly dangerous to children. Unsafe amounts of Lead can be found in paints, gasoline, food, dishes, and other consumer products.

Mercury compounds are listed under Prop 65 as causing birth defects and other reproductive harm. Methylmercury is known by the State of California to cause cancer. Mercury can be found in some dietary supplements, fish and seafood products, and skin care products.

Also known as “forever chemicals” due to their long-lasting and durable nature, Prop 65 currently identifies multiple PFAS as causing cancer, developmental toxicity, or both. PFAS can be found in numerous consumer, commercial, and industrial products, as well as sources of drinking water.

Phthalates are a group of chemicals that are added to plastics to increase their flexibility. California identifies multiple Phthalates that can cause one or a combination of cancer, reproductive toxicity, and developmental toxicity.

In its airborne & unbound form, Titanium Dioxide has been identified by California as causing cancer. The chemical is used as a whitening pigment and agent and can be found in cosmetics and sunscreens.

Volatile Organic Compounds is a type of chemical, many of which have been determined by the State of California to be hazardous. These chemicals turn into gas when exposed to sunlight.
